"What a lotto nearly had's"
A whopping 4.8 million people nearly won the South African National Lottery grand prize of R6.5 million recently - a record number of almost-winners, the biggest in the Lottery's history.
Can you imagine how 4.8 million people would have felt when they heard their numbers drawn live on television on Saturday evening almost making them multi-millionaires?
"My lotto system gave me four of the six numbers, If they had all been on the same line - and I had guessed the other two - who knows!"
"Phew, that was close," he added.

Officials confirmed the record high number of near winners for this weekend's draw.
"This proves once and for all that almost anyone could nearly win millions and millions," said a Lottery spokesperson.
"At 2.50 for a ticket, and then to be in line to be one of the millions of people who have nearly won the lottery so far."
However one punter disagrees that nearly winning the Lottery requires buying a ticket.
As Tony Sloane, Lottery enthusiast explains. "I forgot to complete my lotto system a couple of weeks ago, and the numbers that came up that weekend would have been exactly the numbers I would have picked, give or take a number or two."
"So I nearly won, and I didn't even buy a ticket!"
Lottery officials concede that several people have in fact nearly won the lotto without purchasing a ticket.
"I suppose it's possible, but how can they prove it?" was an official comment.
However, there are still many that are optimistic about their chances in next week's draw. Statistics shows that those who nearly win the lottery in one week are 99.998% likely to nearly win in the following week.
